Naplan results

We waited quite some time for the 2022 Naplan results to arrive as predicted Caboolture Montessori School has done really well.  Our school has beaten averages of both state and nationwide in most areas. Media sources have now acknowledged these outcomes placing Caboolture Montessori School at the top of the Year 5 results for Moreton.

While within our school we refrain from overt competition, encouraging our students to compete only with their own personal efforts, in the case of  the Australian standardised testing known as NAPLAN, we are opening our results to further affirm to communities unfamiliar with Montessori, that Montessori students are capable and achieve excellence in their academics. In all areas (Reading, Language Conventions, Spelling, Writing and Mathematics) but one, CMS exceeded state standards for both Year 3 and Year 5.

We are aware that CMS students are good readers, and although, according to NAPLAN, Queensland’s students are, in general, behind in reading, CMS students not only beat the state average by almost 11%, but exceeded the national average by almost 9%. This is not a surprise for us.

The area we need to develop more, according to NAPLAN, is in Year 3 writing. However, we would like to point-out that once our students reach Year 5, their writing skills have improved considerably, and they are already beating the State average in writing. Indeed, this year our Year 5 students excelled the writing national average by almost 6%.

Congratulations are in order to all students participating in NAPLAN testing and while we do not practice tests repeatedly, we acknowledge the care that our staff took in preparing/supporting the students.  NAPLAN is only one way our students show their capability and we know there are so many ways that we see their individual and unique strengths. Unfortunately, NAPLAN speaks to the communities outside Montessori, hence our small fuss with it.
